Good & Bad things – Cosas buenas y malas.

India… Well, everybody must know that it’s a country with one of the highest poverty rate in the world, as well as some of the most advanced industries and technology. And who hasn't heard about Bollywood or the go-cart rickshaws? All that does not have any influence on your day-to-day life.

I’m gonna go beyond that. Things I love(I like) about India and things I hate(I don’t like), in terms of living.

I love:

    • Living in a peaceful and low-crime rated countries after all(I’ll discuss that later).
    • Living in quite a tolerant country.
    • Living in a country where people from different races, backgrounds, religions and languages interact with each other and live quite peacefully.
    • Living in a country with several antique cultures.
    • Living in a country where you can find something surprising and interesting at every very step.
    • Living in a country where definitely you’re not one of the lot.
    • Living in a country where you can be really yourself and not give a darn(should I say d*mn?) about what the people may think of you.
    • Living in a country where you can get by in English.
    • Living in a country where you will be socially accepted by ANYONE if you prove you’re interested in Bollywood and Cricket.
    • Living in a country with one of the most amazing societies one has the chance to live with.
    • Living in a country when you’re probably gonna have at least one occasion everyday to roll with laughter.
    • Living in a country where you get bright smiling faces since early morning.
    • Living in a country where you can find cheap & good restaurants.
    • Living in a country where you have different shopping opportunities compared to the West.

I hate:

    • Living in a country where their perception of the so-called “respect” is slightly different to ours.
    • Living in a country where you’re always being stared by someone.
    • Living in a country where you don’t know what a Native may hold in store for you.
    • Living in a country with child labour, over-employment, low wages and inhuman work conditions.
    • Living in a country where although you’re not one of them, you see people highly discriminated by religion(e.g. Muslims), race(e.g. Africans), status(e.g. low-class people), caste, tribe, political-party supporter, etc.
    • Living in a country with people willing to show off some knowledge when they have no idea about it at all.
    • Living in a country where there are so many thousands of traditions, customs and rules you need to follow and they’re only applied depending on who you’re dealing with.
    • Living in a country where you’ll be told lies, and will find some hypocrite guys.
    • Living in a country with streets full of beggars, slums and people who can sometimes break your heart.
    • Living in a country with assiduous power and water cuts.
    • Living in a country with the WORST road network.
    • Living in a country with suffocating temperatures(depending on the geographical area).
    • Living in a country with a socially accepted corruption.
    • Living in a country with slow and expensive Internet connection.

India bureaucracy is the WORST in Asia

“SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore's civil servants are the most efficient among their Asian peers, a business survey on 12 economies released on Wednesday showed, but they tend to clam up unhelpfully when things go wrong.

The island-state was ranked first for a third time in a poll of 1,274 expatriates working in 12 North and South Asian nations on the efficiency of bureaucrats in those countries. The poll was last held in 2007.

"During normal times, when the system is not stress-tested, it operates very well," Hong Kong-based Political & Economic Risk Consultancy said in a 12-page report of Singapore's bureaucracy.

"However, during difficult times - or when mistakes are made that reflect badly on the system - there is a tendency among bureaucrats to circle the wagons in ways that lack transparency and make accountability difficult," the report said.

India's "suffocating bureaucracy" was ranked the least-efficient by the survey, which said working with the country's civil servants was a "slow and painful" process.

"They are a power centre in their own right at both the national and state levels, and are extremely resistant to reform that affects them or the way they go about their duties," PERC said.

Thailand, despite four years of on-off street protests and a year of dysfunctional government was ranked third.

"For all the country's troubles -- or perhaps because of them -- respondents to our survey were impressed with the way Thai civil servants have been carrying out their duties," PERC said.

It said state offices associated with corruption presented the most difficulties for Thai citizens and foreigners.

PERC managing director Bob Broadfoot told Reuters that the controversy around huge investment losses by Singapore sovereign wealth fund Temasek was a good example of how things could become less transparent in in the island-state.

The Singapore government has come under fire from lawmakers and its citizens over several investment losses, particular its exit from Bank of America which resulted in a loss of over $3 billion, according to Reuters calculation.

The survey ranked Hong Kong second. China, which has been campaigning to fight corruption in its bureaucracy and improve efficiency on the civil service, was ranked 9th in the 2009 poll, two places down from 2007.

Ranking by most efficient to least efficient economies:

Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, China, Philippines, Indonesia and India.”

...

“After six-and-a-half months in India, I couldn’t wait to leave. Strange now it’s the first place I would return to. Then again, that’s how it is in India. It is an intense place; wonderful and exotic and depressing and frustrating and mind-blowing. Sometimes [always, according to me] all at the same time. If you have endurance, patience, a flair for adventure, and a desire for the unexpected, there are few places you will love more than India.”

[Funny] Photo of the day – La foto [Divertida] del día

English:

This is called “kurta”. It has always been the traditional wear for men in India. Nowadays, nobody wears it to go work or to hang out. They just wear it(not all) in religious celebrations, weddings, etc.

Personally I don’t like it. I bought one for Rs. 100 = 1.5 euro. It’s exotic though. But it makes you look fatter(as you’ll se in the photo… I’m not fat lol).

A mi no me gusta. La compre por Rs. 100, lo que viene a ser un euro y medio. Esa ropa “engorda”. Yo me veo muy gordo en la foto, y en realidad no lo soy xD.
